New Name!

Hey guys,
I found out recently that there is a crappy guitar hero clone out there that is called Riffmaster already, so I have decided to change the name of this project to Riffmeister. Comments and opinions welcome as always! Re-done and hopefully way better logos and a bit of art coming soon!

Hey Y'all, here's that video I promised when the earth was young

Yeah so cool, here's a video of the game running FINALLY and only sortof. Basically I have been working on making parallax scrolling work, and then when I got it working I didn't have anything to show it off, so I drew some trees for the background of the first level. Enjoy!

Lack of updates means I am working on something hard?

So I have finally got rid of a few of the more persistent bugs the game had, and I am working to get a playable version running so people can have a go and tell me how it feels to play. Right now all I have for you is these two shots from the game. This first is a mock-up I did a few weeks ago using a new-ish tileset to describe what the bare bones of the first level should look like:

And the second is a screenshot of the alpha version of the game ACTUALLY running and not crashing and only doing a medium amount of weird stuff:

So yeah. Pretty bare bones right now, but the main dude is running and jumping and tile-sets are working there is a pause function as well. Yay! I hope to get a video of the alpha running up later when I flesh it out a bit more so stay tuned!

New Faux Chiptune! Riffmaster gets noises.

So as I mentioned earlier I spent this week working on some sound for the game, I came up with what I consider to be a pretty decent tribute to some classic 8-bit video-game music. Check it out!

If you check out the other tracks on the Soundcloud account, I also made some sound effects for various events in the game. I have some guitar driven rock stuff in the works also, but that will come later! I mostly made this because I need to test integrating sound into the game and how it will affect performance and such. That means that this week coming will be devoted to working on the game's engine again, and hopefully I will have a bit of a demo video of a very rough version of it working for all of you by next week, or worst case scenario, the week after!

New Sprites! More new stuff coming.

I have been working a lot on the game's pixel art this week, and I have come up with a couple of the enemies the player will face in the game. Here's one:

Some sort of evil wizard is all I can say for now! Hehe. This guy will summon up a whole bunch of these next guys for you to battle:

Yay baby demon things! I also worked a bit more on the main character sprites. Average Joe may not see much of a difference, but any pixel pushing readers will notice significant advances:

Well, that's all for now! I will probably take a break on the graphics for a bit now, to work on the sound effects for the game. Hopefully next week I can post a theme tune and some noises for jumping and attacking and so forth. Tell me what you think!

Welcome!

Hi everybody, and welcome to the Riffmaster dev blog! I should be able to throw some heavy content out in the next few weeks, but for now I will be posting snippets of the game from time to time in the form of sprites and tiles I am designing, and maybe some other art, and some music being written for the game! Please share this blog on your Facebook or Twitter or anything else to help me spread the word, and if you have the means, donate to this fantastic project! (click on the "Donate" tab, it can be any amount, please be generous!) For now, here are some rough versions of the sprites I am working on that will represent the main playable character! There is walking, jumping and equipping his magic guitar. I am still working on the attack animations, but expect those soon!
